I Found My New Favorite!!

I am not a fan of kettle corn popcorn. It's okay, but not something I would buy on a regular basis. I was in Walmart when I stumbled upon Nabisco's Sweet and Salty Mix, Kettle Flavor. The box included six packs for $2.00. The contents are baked and include pretzels, crackers and chex cereal. The package describes them as "sprinkled with sweet butter, brown sugar and some salt". The result is a very tasty, filling snack. It's like you are not even eating something that is low in calories. It's like you are cheating on your diet. It is very hard to eat just one bag - that's how good these are. I am actually headed back to Walmart today to pick up a couple of more boxes. This will definitely be a staple with me.

Fiber Saves The Day!

I can say I am a pretty big fan of Fiber One products. I especially like their oat and caramel chewy bars. I was in Walmart the other day and I saw they have now have muffins. I'm not sure if they're new or not, but that was my first time seeing them. I had to choose from wild bluberry and oats, apple cinnamon bun and banana chocolate chip. The website lists mixed fruit, nuts and honey, but I didn't see those. I chose apple cinnamon bun. They came in a box of 3 and cost $2.75. which I thought was kind of steep. I was a little disappointed in the size of the muffins. I thought they would be bigger. The texture was excellent. They were moist and fairly heavy for a "diet" muffin. The taste was pretty good. I think I would rather have the Little Debbie cakes for a sweet snack though. Depending on my mood, I may or may not purchase these again.

Perfect For The Kid In You!!!

Goldfish crackers are usually something I give to my 6 year old. I will occasionally grab a handful to snack on, but I pretty much gave these things up when I left the fifth grade. Then I saw these baked Goldfish Grahams at my local Foo Lion. The bags were kind of glossy so they really caught my attention. Then I noticed they had them in cinnamon! I just had to try them. They are not advertised as a "low-calorie" snack but I was pretty impressed with the nutritional value. And to my surprise - they were good! (I'm actually eating them as I type). The texture is kind of grainy (if that's a word), and the first taste is definitely cinnamon, then a sweetness. A serving size is about 50 pieces which is a nice size snack. I would definitely recommend these and will be buying them again.

This One Has Passed The Ultimate Test!!

I'm not too big on sweets. I'm more of a salty type of gal. Well, I saw these 100 Calorie Right Bites from Keebler. They are Fudge Shoppe Cookies'n Creme. I was a little skeptical at first, because I haven't been too impressed with Keebler before. When I tasted these, was I surprised! They are delicious. I love the chocolate taste and the cream on the back and drizzled on the front is really good. The cookies don't have that "diety" (is that a word) taste that a lot of low calorie snacks have. And the best thing of all, my 6-year old loves them and wants to take them for snack at school every day!

Thanks, But No Thanks

Shortbread is one of my favorite kinds of cookies. And I figured I couldn't go wrong with these Murray's 100 calorie shortbread bites. I found a box of them at Walmart and while they are sugar free, they are not reduced fat. They are 90 calories, 3.5 grams of fat and 3 grams of fiber - so not too bad. But boy oh boy was I disappointed in the taste. They are no sugar, but sweetened with Splenda. I have had other no sugar added snacks and they actually tasted pretty decent. But not these cookies. Unfortunately I will not be trying these again but I will probably try another snack from Murray's some time in the future.

More Ice Cream!!!

By the looks of the ice cream on the carton, I thought I had hit the jackpot. Pieces of chocolate and chocolate chip cookies in creamy vanilla ice cream. No sugar added and reduced fat at that. Boy oh boy was I wrong. Perhaps I am a bit biased because I'm so in love with Edy's Butterfinger (see previous post). But I doubt that's the reason. I truly love ice cream and give each and every flavor a fair shot. Or maybe I need to try the "regular" kind. I think because it has no sugar added, it has kind of an artificial taste to it. I think I'm going to try it again and maybe it will taste better. We shall see....

Unexpected Surprise!!

I scream, you scream, we all yeah, yeah, yeah. Well I don't scream, but I do crave ice cream. Whenever there is a new ice cream flavor, I pretty much try it. When I saw Edy's Loaded Butterfinger flavor. It is the bomb! There are pieces of Butterfinger candy bar in the ice cream and swirls of some type of peanut butter concoction. The combination is great and get this there are only 130 calories, and 5 grams of fat per 1/2 cup serving. Perfect to serve in a sugar cone and very tasty. I'm still working on trying the other flavors, but I'm really stuck on this one!
Check them out!

Nice Try Breyers, But...

Cheesecake is a huge weakness for me. My favorite kind is the no bake mix you can buy from the grocery store. I love it sweet and creamy with a graham cracker crust. Imagine my excitement when I found Breyer's 100 calorie yogurt with graham cracker pieces. It seemed really tasty and I was excited to try it, plus I found a coupon in the Sunday paper. The yogurt really didn't taste like cheesecake to me, but I have rarely found any yogurt that does. The graham cracker pieces didn't really taste like graham cracker either. I guess I'll have to try it again to see if I really like it. I will have to admit that it is a neat snack for 100 calories. But I am going to try the vanilla with chocolate chip cookie pieces - maybe I will like that.

I Think I'm Obsessed!!!!

If you can't tell, I love finding 100 calorie snacks. Every time I go to Walmart it seems I find something new. But sometimes I want something a little different. Maybe fruit or something a bit more filling. I found this this on www.hap.org. It's a list of 100 calorie treats you can make yourself at home. I can't wait to try some of these.

Little Debbie Has Done It Again!!!

Today while in Walmart I found the Lemon version of their 100 calorie snack cakes. I absolutely love anything lemon. I have tried Weight Watcher's version of lemon cakes and those are very good - but I think Little Debbie has them beat. These are lemon cakes with white icing. Little Debbie's cakes are very moist and sweet - yet have a little twang (is that a word?) These cakes are definitely a great treat and they make you feel like you are really having a great snack. Add a small glass of reduced fat milk or soymilk - perfect!

A Good, Solid Snack

So I'm a sucker for cinnamon. Cinnamon buns, cinnamon gum, cinnamon toast, you name it. When I saw these 100 Calorie Packs of Honey Maid cinnamon roll thin crisps, I just had to try them. I wasn't disappointed. The smell hits you as you open the bag, a slight hint of sweet cinnamon. These crisps are thin and crunchy and sweet with just enough cinnamon to satisfy my taste buds. I have become accustomed to eating these 100 calorie snacks so the amount never bothers me, but they give you enough in this bag to make you feel like you are really having a substantial snack. They are perfect for snacks on the go and I will definitely purchase these again.

I cannot even put into words how delicious these bars are! They are so much like the real rice krispie treats unlike the Kellogs brand which to me is a bit dry and tasteless. The bars are soft and gooey and the treats are so sweet. I'll be honest - it is so hard to eat just one, but if you are really following a diet plan, one is a great treat and can be very filling. I found mine at my local Walmart and they were $1.50 for a box of 8. Lately I haven't been able to find them so I hope they still carry them. They are on Little Debbie's website - www.littledebbie.com.

I'm Baaack!!!

I know it's been a while since I posted, but I'm a Grad student and school and other ventures I'm working on totally monopolized my time. Unfortunately over the holidays I also fell off the wagon, well not just fell off, bounced down the street and then was run over by the wagon. I ate like it was going out of style and now, I'm having to start over. But the good thing is I found a lot of new and exciting foods that will help me on my quest for a new summer body.

Today while I was in Walmart I found new Weight Watchers chocolate brownies. There were four in a box and they were $2.50. I normally wouldn't pay that price for only four, but I thought I would try them as an occasional treat. I absolutely love the oatmeal raisin cookies so I was looking forward to trying the brownies. The brownies are a pretty decent size (I'll post pictures later). The texture is okay, they are definitely not fudgy (if that's a word). They actually seem kind of tough. The taste is just okay. It's the kind of snack that if you are not a chocolate person and just like this kind of snack every once in a while, this may satisfy you. I looooove brownies and would eat them every day if I could, so I was disappointed. Overall they are okay, but I won't be buying them again. I'll just wait until I can splurge and bake some "regular" brownies.
